A short animated sequence featuring Tintin and Snowy suddenly appeared on social networks at the beginning of August. This 15-second advertising spot<\/b><\/a>, The film, unknown to most Tintin fans, dates from 1988. It was made for the car manufacturer Honda and broadcast on Japanese television, notably on NTV on 1 January.er<\/sup> June of that year. The title of the advert, \u00abTintin's Dream of Honda\u00bb, announced what was to come: asleep, the boy with the tassel dreams himself reduced to a Lilliputian size and explores the passenger compartment of a car in the company of his fox terrier.<\/p>

The drawing, very faithful to that of Herg\u00e9, recalls our two heroes as they appear, with youthful features, in certain plates of the definitive versions of Tintin in Congo<\/i> and Tintin in America<\/i>. The soundtrack features the song \u00abLes Aventures de Tintin\u00bb by Japanese singer Taeko Ohnuki, from her album Girlfriend<\/i> (1985), with a new orchestration.<\/p>

A spot that's not entirely authorised<\/b><\/p>

At the time, BIL (Baran International Licensing), the forerunner of Moulinsart, managed the rights derived from Herg\u00e9's work. Alain Baran, who headed the company, recalls that BIL was not put in touch with Honda for this spot. \u00abIt was Nick Rodwell who, at the same time as launching a Tintin shop in Tokyo, negotiated this advert as agent for derivative rights in Japan\u00bb.\u00bb<\/i>, he commented on Facebook.<\/p>

Tintinologist Jean-Claude Jouret, whom I interviewed, also remembers this moment precisely. In 1988, he was in charge of Tintin merchandising for the whole world at BIL. BIL had just terminated its contracts with Astra-Calv\u00e9 and its Swiss subsidiary S.A.I.S. Dorina, owners of the Fruit d'or brand. Gone were the many advertisements in which Professor Tournesol was seen soaring through the air with a bottle of oil or a tub of margarine in his hand. \u00abIn fact, these adverts were moving further and further away from the world of Herg\u00e9's characters\u00bb.\u00bb<\/i>, explains Jean-Claude Jouret. \u00abIn this order of things, the Honda spot didn't fit in with our strategy of avoiding making Tintin the spokesperson for a brand in a world too far removed from that of his adventures.\u00bb<\/i><\/p>

The production of the Honda advert preceded BIL's initial discussions with the French studio Ellipse for the production of an animated series by several months. \u00abThe graphic and respectful aspects of the albums were emphasised from the outset. It has to be said that authorising the broadcasting of such an ad did not give us much credibility in our demands...\u00bb.\u00bb<\/i>, adds Jean-Claude Jouret. Fortunately, the means of communication at the end of the 1980s were such that Ellipse never knew anything about the short Japanese cartoon.<\/p>

Honda Japan continued to use the Tintin character in its promotional campaigns until 1989. Did the reporter in the knickerbockers appear in other advertising spots for the car brand during this period? The question remains...<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Quand Tintin faisait de la pub au Japon Ajouter aux favoris Une courte s\u00e9quence anim\u00e9e avec Tintin et Milou a subitement fait son apparition sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux au d\u00e9but du mois d\u2019ao\u00fbt. Ce spot publicitaire d\u2019\u00e0 peine 15 secondes, inconnu de la plupart des tintinophiles, date de 1988. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour le constructeur automobile Honda et diffus\u00e9 \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision japonaise, notamment sur NTV le 1er juin de cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0. Celle-ci venait de mettre fin aux contrats avec la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Astra-Calv\u00e9 et sa filiale suisse S.A.I.S. Dorina, propri\u00e9taires de la marque Fruit d\u2019or. Termin\u00e9es, les multiples publicit\u00e9s dans lesquelles on voyait le professeur Tournesol s\u2019\u00e9lever dans les airs, une bouteille d\u2019huile ou une barquette de margarine \u00e0 la main. \u00ab\u00a0En effet, ces spots s\u2019\u00e9loignaient de plus en plus de l\u2019univers des personnages d\u2019Herg\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, explique Jean-Claude Jouret. \u00ab\u00a0Dans cet ordre des choses, le spot Honda n\u2019entrait pas davantage dans la strat\u00e9gie que nous avions d\u2019\u00e9viter de faire de Tintin le porte-parole d\u2019une marque dans un univers trop \u00e9loign\u00e9 de celui de ses aventures.\u00a0\u00bb La r\u00e9alisation du spot publicitaire pour Honda pr\u00e9c\u00e9dait de quelques mois les premi\u00e8res discussions de la BIL avec le studio fran\u00e7ais Ellipse pour la production d\u2019une s\u00e9rie d\u2019animation. \u00ab\u00a0Les aspects graphiques et respectueux des albums avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en avant d\u00e8s les premiers contacts. Il faut avouer qu\u2019autoriser la diffusion d\u2019un tel spot ne nous rendait pas tr\u00e8s cr\u00e9dibles dans nos exigences\u2026\u00a0\u00bb, ajoute Jean-Claude Jouret. Heureusement, les moyens de communication \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980 \u00e9taient tels qu\u2019Ellipse ne sut jamais rien du court dessin anim\u00e9 nippon. Honda Japon utilisa encore le personnage de Tintin dans ses op\u00e9rations de promotion jusqu\u2019en 1989. Le reporter aux culottes de golf est-il apparu durant cette p\u00e9riode dans d\u2019autres spots publicitaires pour la marque automobile\u00a0?
