Tintin
Tintin in the Land of the Soviets
First Edition of Tintin au Pays des Soviet, 4th mile of 1930, blue cloth spine, neutral white 4th plate, Signed by Hergé in 1969.
A unique copy! Certainly the only Soviets known to have been signed by Hergé, apart from the first 500 copies and the 1969 enhanced reprints.
The dedication is accompanied by a drawing of Tintin's head and mentions :
"To Nathalie and Noëlle with congratulations and friendly thoughts from Hergé".
Dated 3 December 1969.
The dedication has been authenticated by the Hergé committee, and a certificate from the foundation bearing reference 2022/207 accompanies this legendary edition.
The boards are original but soiled and with some minor surface rubbing in places. The boards have not been cleaned.
Old restorations are visible on the 4 corners as well as on the extremities of the headpieces, sometimes extending slightly over the boards. (Probably gouache).
The headpieces are rubbed and seem to have been restored and/or reinforced in the past. Apparently no colour retouching on headpieces or spine. The blue spine is original.
The binding has been restored as the joint between the endpapers has broken. The original blue spine is glued to the binding and to the endpapers. (Spine hard throughout).
On the 1st flyleaf, two newspaper articles have been pasted up, praising the success of Tintin's adventures with children and adults alike.
The 1st flyleaf has been restored as tears appear to have been reattached. There is tape (1.5cm x 1.5cm) at the top centre of the 1st flyleaf and a partially erased handwritten Name. Tears also restored to bottom corner of 1st flyleaf.
The inside pages are in very good condition. Freckling on the first 2 pages and later in the book on the last pages. (Oxidation of the paper). I noted about ten small tears at the bottom of the pages. Very few traces of reading.
A legendary album with a beautiful handwritten dedication and a drawing by Hergé.
Some old restorations were carried out at different times.
A copy in good condition, which can be handled but is still very fragile!
